Update on Working on Wells Fargo
In eighth grade, I started private school. I was one on 20 boys/teenagers joining a class of 80, many of whom had been at this school as kindergartners. Although we were all new to the Middle School, the the twenty outsiders, it was a tough road. We walked into a new school, with few or no friends (I knew two people coming in with me). That year was rough on two accounts:
- We were thrown into new situations from day 1 and expected to swim. From how to wear ties everyday to eating lunch family style, there was a ton of new things we are asked to do that we never given much grace.
- Class work – most of us had the ability but we lacked the background. I remember vividly struggling through 8th grade English with grammar – I had the abilitybut lack two years of class room teaching. Math was the same – I was stuck in a lower match class for 4 years – had the ability but was missing a year of instruction. I tried in 9th grade for a while but it never took.
So how does the carry over to Wells – simply this – Every day there is some new method of doing things – often the same as Wachovia, sometimes totally new. the Wells folks I think know that we do not know the new way, but they forget all the time. in fact, the better acclimated you are with the Wells teams, the more they tend to forget.
It gets tiring having to remind the Wells person that I do not understand that process, nor that I can comply. In some places, the old Wachovia process is still in place (example: the Wachovia performance process is in place for 2009 but I have been handed a set of Wells Fargo MBOs that are not in my Wachovia goals tool). Moreover, it takes time to learn new processes and comply. And that time is not being given. I feel every day I falling behind, while focusing on the immediate but getting a chance to understand how to do my new to me job. Again, I have the ability but need the instruction.
In 8th grade, I survived and stayed. Sports was my outlet. I went from being a medium fish in a deep pond (something like 6 kids from my pee wee football team went on to play Division 1 sports) to a medium fish in a small pond. I got to play three sports, and play lacrosse which public school did not have. Still wondering the hook for Wells long term (besides a job)
