Ditching Blockbuster All Access

We decided to quite Blockbuster All Access. I was looking at the bills and realized we were paying almost $20 for Blockbuster and then $11 each for HBO and Starz. No way we need $42 for movies each month.

With both Netflix and Blockbuster, the system is great if you are active but we are not the type of family who that type of system works for. I do like the Blockbuster feature of being to drop of movies at the store and then rent for free a replacement in store. With three stores close by, it was an amazing perk.  Plus I think Blockbuster was faster than Netflix. The online piece for Netflix was nice but the catalog was so small that it was not hard to exhaust the catalog.

next for us to examine doe we need two movie channels. I really like Starz but HBO has some great programming as well. I am planning to wait to see if the prices come down as promised with our move to Time Warner (I can not wait for that; this old Adelphia system is the pits).

Buying the Right TV for the exact wrong reasons

I bought a really nice 42 inch LCD 720p Samsung HDTV over Christmas. Off Ebay, basically news with the stickers on. It retails at Walmart at $1299 and I got for $780. Great TV, incredible picture and NFL in the HD in quite amazing.

But I should have never bought the TV. Here is why: My wife saw a 42 inch HD flat screen at her uncle's house over Christmas. She really liked it and could see very well. We had talked about getting a HD TV at some point but I had been resisting the need to do so until we had better HD channels. But I fell for it. I went out and found this TV.

Every since we got it, I had struggled with it. I could not place my reason on it, why I was so tormented. Then this weekend Mike Moses really put his finger on my issue. I lacked the discipline in buying this. Instead of waiting until the time was right, when Ginny and I had talked through it and made the decision together, I went off an made a splurge purchase. And went way big. My guilt was consuming me. Did we have the money, yeah we had the money. But that was not the issue. I needed to show the discipline to not buy this.

I bought a air purifier for $400 two years ago. same story. And same guilt. I need to resist temptation and not impulse buy.

P.S. As we bought the TV, we decided to move our furniture around, and then as we moved the furniture we realized that the walls needed to be painted. So we painted the room, which was the last room in the house to be painted. So to get the TV and I had to paint the room.
